Introduction to Whittling: Kuksa Cup and Wooden Spoons - Rockport, Maine

Kuksa is a type of drinking cup, traditionally crafted by the Sami people of northern Scandinavia. the perfect but for tea or coffee and a perfect gift for you or a loved one.

In class, we will use basswood woods. Crafting a wooden kuksa cup is designed for both beginners and skilled carvers alike. We will go through the various tools and carving techniques needed to make this cup.

Here is what we will go over:

  • Gathering the proper tools and materials

  • Caring and sharpening your tools

  • Using your knives and various techniques

  • Refining your cut

  • Selecting the wood and how to prepare it

  • Creating a rough shape

  • How to make the “bowl”

  • Shaping the handle and creating designs

  • Sanding and treating the spoon and cup

  • Remember to take your time, work carefully, and practice!

This is a perfect way to spend an evening with a friend or just if you want to join in with fun class.

We will bring some snacks and tea to enjoy with this fun night.

Walk away with a new Kuksa cup and a skill for life.
