Learn about Leave No Trace principles and ethics as well as understanding various techniques on how to teach these principles. This course is great for anyone interested but is geared for educators, leaders, Maine Guides, and park employees. Becoming a Leave No Trace Trainer enables you to successfully conduct awareness workshops and scouting badge workshops.
In this course we will review the following:
· History of Leave No Trace
· Seven Principles and ethics of Leave No Trace
· Overview of the national Leave No Trace program and other resources
· The role and function of a Leave No Trace Trainer
· Teaching skills and techniques and student learning styles
· Participants will teach at least one activity/session
· Understand how to run an awareness workshop
Once completing the course, participants will be considered a Leave No Trace Trainer at a national level with the Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics.
This is an overnight trip and will require participants to bring their own camping gear (sleeping bags and pads). Gear and supply list will be provided. Food and group gear will be provided. There is a limited supply of solo tents that can be used.
We will meet on Saturday 8am in Ellsworth leaving in the afternoon for Donnell Pond Public Reserve land. We will camp overnight in tents and cook over stoves. We will leave in the afternoon on Sunday and finish the program around 5pm in Ellsworth.
